NYAD (2023)

It is a little odd to be writing about 2 potentially academy award winning movies, that were both made for Netflix, and watched first run, at home.  But here they are.

NYAD and Maestro are masterpieces, with both of them having truly brilliant, lead and supporting actor roles, along with stellar writing and directing.

In a time when Hollywood and Disney have become bastions of bad, beacons of blah, and waste buckets of woke.  It is nice to know that there are people out there that still make good movies.

There might be some out there who may be turned off by the fact that both the lead characters in these movies are gay.  My argument to that possibility is that in both these movies, the lead characters actually were gay, and therefore there sexualities are integral parts of the story, which is more than OK.   This is a different thing than the woke agenda.

Maestro (2023)

The sexuality of the characters "just is".  Their stories are about what they accomplished, and how they lived, which in both cases, was unusually driven, complicated and accomplished.

Putting all ideology aside, and just looking at the performances.  Acting performances don't get any better.  And writing and directing doesn't get any better either.

Both of these movies are inspired, and written about fascinating people, who made a difference, and accomplished their dreams, in their lifetime.  Bravo to  Leonard Berntein and Felicia Montealeagre; and bravo to Diana Nyad, Bonnie Stoll, John Bartlett and Dee Brady.  And bravo to the people who created and acted in the movies about them.

Well done, and thank you.
